, national politics, immigration, the presidential campaign of 2004, and 2008, and first lady michele obama and her role in the obama white house. i met rachel at an event this year where i bought a book, the book she wrote, "american tapestry: the story of the black, white, and multiracial ancestors of michelle obama". after hearing her talk, i'd bought six more copies. i bought them for all my family members and to give out as christmas gifts. now after having read her book i can tell you it was a good investment. it helps me better understand my own family and many mysteries surrounding my own family. rachel l. swams's book is a compelling story that stirs deep emotions. it is also a story that would break them here and with that, let's welcome rachel l. swams. . everyone is shocked about the loss of the much loved and valued colleague. >> nbc's michelle kosinski is live. what else have we learned about the victim? >> not much. the hospital said that she worked there at king edward the hospital for more than four years. she cared for hundreds of patients. but that's really about it. the hospital isn't even saying the manner of death but according to reports here in the uk, multiple sources say she took her own life and was found on the hospital premises this morning. they tried to revive her but unsuccessfully. the hospital interestingly said that they have been supporting her through this difficult time and telling us that she was having a tough time. we don't know exactly why or what else was going on in this woman's life. but it appears that she did commit suicide on the grounds of the hospital. anyone else who worked with her but people described as stunned, that the news is staggering. one of the things that this prank phone call really highlighted, aside from the fact that it was a breach of security, was the kindness and unsuspecting na

mean you,ed have had all of the advisers at post election conference saying it wasn't. michele bachmann put a ton of time, resources and that didn't turn into anything, as you well know. the governor has said it's irrelevant we should move beyond it. when you have governor of the party saying we should move beyond it and the top consultants on the last campaign saying, yeah it doesn't matter, you know, i think it's probably losing its significance. >> michele bachmann won the ames straw poll and finished sixth, sixth in the iowa caucuses. the other one i thought was right on, saving money to advertise in october is a good idea. turns out not, why? >> this, i think, could have the most lasting impact going forward that will be interesting to see in 2016. as you well know, the obama campaign made an early decision to define mitt romney in may and june, coming out of the primary. went right into the states, sort of framing him as a plutocrat who didn't care about the middle class, mitt romney campaign reserved time for the fall, put $20 million into the fall but he was already defined. it

little tummy bug is going. >> michelle is live at the hospital with us for the latest on the story. what can you tell us? >> reporter: hi, craig. less than a day ago the world was laughing at this prank, and today it has taken this incredibly, unexpectedly tragic turn. the hospital said that that nurse that originally took the call and transferred it to the duchess of cambridge's ward was found dead. reportedly only a few yards from the hospital. she's a woman in her 40s with two young children. she's apparently taken her own life. here's what the hospital said. >> the hospital had been supporting her through this very difficult time. she was a first class nurse who cared diligently for hundreds of patients during her time with us. everyone is shocked by the loss of a much-loved and valued colleague. >> reporter: they said she had worked here for more than four years. almost immediately the palace responded saying that the duke and duchess are deeply saddened, and the palace wanted to emphasize that no one from the palace or royal family made any complaint against those nurses or the hos

the evidence is. michelle says she started getting the harassing texts in early november. an anonymous person threatened to send nude pictures of her to her mother and then to a wide circulation. one text said i'm so close to sending them to everyone. you are so sexy, you'll be an online star in no time unless you answer me. the threats came from different cell phone numbers. a model and college student, she was terrified. >> i was very, very afraid. i mean, that week i didn't go to a night class because i didn't feel safe to walk by myself. >> reporter: it's tho kinds of texts that u.s. law enforcement authorities want more power to investigate. several law enforcement groups including chiefs of police, sheriffs associations, are pushing congress to pass a law saying your carrier has to record and store your text messages. it's not clear how long they want them stored. scott burns of the national district attorney's association, one of the groups pushing for the new law says his group favors a period of three or four months. maybe longer if an investigation is urgent. >> if you're in the mid
